A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY JOURNEY TO BOWEN AND BREATHWORK............
I discovered Bowen after I'd been working as a Remedial Massage Therapist. I'd been looking for additional training to help clients suffering with back pain and noticed lots of internet posts referring to The Bowen Technique. To be honest, I was pretty sceptical that something so subtle and gentle could be effective (at that point I was a firm believer in “no pain no gain” ) but curiosity pervailed and I went and enrolled on the first module with Bowen College Tutor and Practitioner, Paula Esson. That was in 2008. Two days later and I was completely hooked and enrolled on the full training programme. How could a treatment be so relaxing AND so beneficial at the same time? The biggest result for me personally was the work we did around the pelvis where I regained about 80% of feeling around my C-section scar tissue. Unbelievable! I’d been so used to working at a muscular skeletal level that this therapy, which treats the whole body and all the systems (nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, lymphatic and reproductive systems) was a revelation. Spurred on by this understanding of the body as a connected whole I went on and completed several hands-on human dissection workshops. I wanted to get a better visual picture of the threads and lines and shapes of continuity beneath the skin. In doing so I discovered that Bowen made even more sense in terms of how and why it works. My understanding of what I do in my clinic, how I work with clients is so much richer and deeper as a result of Bowen…..with results to prove it.
In 2020, in the midst of a global health crisis and a disproportionate number of people suffering with respiratory conditions (on top of the ever increasing cases of asthma, anxiety, COPD and sleep disorders) I was motivated to expand my practice to include Breathwork. I’ve practised yoga for 25 years so was experienced with a lot of Prananyama techniques before I qualified as Breath Coach with Lucas Rockwood https://www.yogabody.com and Patrick McKeown https:/oxygenadvantage.com . I teach the anatomy of breathing and breathing techniques to help clients manage stress induced ailments such as anxiety, low energy, sleeplessness and Long Covid as well as improve immune function and cardio fitness.
