Two Figures Leaning Forward by Michelangelo.

I have been participating in a movement workshop with Bridget Fiske www.bridgetfiske.com this week and have realised a couple of things:

1) how difficult it is to shape yourself outside of your habitual movement patterns and

2) the challenge of being present enough that the next move arises from that centred space.

Instead of listening I found myself busily and constantly projecting myself into the next movement…ie where shall I go next, where should I put my foot, maybe I need to spiral my torso etc. etc.

Moshe Alexander writes of the tendency to lean towards conversations and what we are seeing/hearing (as a kind of proof we are engaged). Instead he asks that we allow the information to come to our senses…..to balance our head back on our spine (not chin forward) and receive what is given to us and act from that alignment. #alexandertechnique #bowentechnique #bowentherapy #bridgetfiske #somaticmovement #dance #posture #backpain #neckpain #spine
